It is not regular Attha – Alludu story: Maruthi

Director Maruthi who has consistently been delivering hits with films like ‘Bhale Bhale Magadiovy’ and ‘Mahanubhavudu’ has now directed a mass entertainer ‘Shailaja Reddy Alludu’ featuring Naga Chaitanya, Ramyakrishna and Anu Emmanuel. As the film is gearing up for release on 13 September, the director talks about the movie and his career choices.

How did this project materialize?

I always wanted to work with Naga Chaitanya. He has never done a mass family drama until now and in this process, I felt that I should showcase him in a complete family entertainer and that is when I wrote ‘Shailajareddy Alludu’ for him.

Can Chay carry a mass commercial entertainer like this?

Why not? Chay has transformed himself in a superb way with this film. He will entertain you with his role which will showcase a new actor in him. He starts off as a lover boy in the first half and become a family man with all the commercial elements. Chay will shock everyone with his all-around performance.

How different is Saijareddy Alludu from others?

This is not the old school routine commercial drama set between a boy and his mother in law. The film is all about how Chay goes to extreme lengths to marry the girl of his life by convincing his mother in law.

Will Ramyakrishna dominate the show?

Many think that her role will be very dominating but it is not. She is a very good person but has a lot of ego in the film. How the hero tames that ego and marries her daughter is the story of the film. It was dream come true for me to work with Ramya Krishna after a film like ‘Baahubali’.

Have plans for Akhil as well?

Initially, I wanted to make ‘Mahanubhavudu’with Akhil but things did not work out as he was busy with ‘Hello’. Very soon, I will make a good feel good movie with him.

Looks like brand Maruthi took a beating with ‘Brand Babu’?

To speak the fact, I don’t feel that I have created a brand for myself. I work according to my comforts and if I wanted to make use of my brand, I have many stories like ‘Ee Rojullo’ and I would have good money out of them. I am only here to make films in every genre.

How happy are you with the film’s output?

I have seen the complete film yesterday and am happy that I have made a clean family entertainer which will please every section of the audience. Chay will take another step in his career and I am happy that I will be a small part of his success.
