Kannada stars have long been making their presence felt in Telugu and Tamil cinema. Actors like Upendra have regularly crossed industries, with the senior star playing a key role in Ram Pothineni’s “Andhra King Taluka” and making a cameo appearance in Rajinikanth’s “Coolie.”

Another Kannada heavyweight, Shiva Rajkumar, is set to appear in an important role in Ram Charan’s upcoming Telugu biggie “Peddi.” Adding to the list, Rishab Shetty will soon be seen as the lead in the Telugu film “Jai Hanuman.”

Despite this strong exchange from Kannada actors, the reverse trend appears to be missing. The Kannada film industry is reportedly facing a lack of participation from stars of other languages, even in cameo roles.

Kannada superstar Sudeep recently voiced his disappointment in an interview, stating that actors from other industries are reluctant to appear in Kannada films. He revealed that he has acted in several non-Kannada films without charging any remuneration, but despite personally reaching out, he has not received a positive response from others to do similar roles in Kannada cinema.

This comes at a time when Kannada films like Kantara and KGF have achieved massive pan-India success. Yet, the industry continues to face structural challenges, including limited interest from OTT platforms in acquiring Kannada films.
