Thalapathy Vijay’s Tamil film “Jana Nayagan,” dubbed in Telugu as “Jana Nayakudu,” will not be released during the Sankranthi 2026 festival. The release has been ruled out after the court posted the matter related to the film’s censor certification to January 21.

On Friday morning, a single-judge bench of the Madras High Court directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant the film a UA certificate. However, the CBFC subsequently appealed against the order. Representing the board, Additional Solicitor General A R L Sundaresan argued that the single-judge order was passed without giving the CBFC an opportunity to file a counter affidavit.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court has now posted the case for January 21, following the Pongal holidays.

As a result, “Jana Nayagan,” which is being touted as Thalapathy Vijay’s final film before he enters the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, will not hit the screens until the court delivers its final verdict.
