Sri Chidambaram Garu and Euphoria

“Euphoria” and “Sri Chidambaram Garu” were the two notable Telugu releases that arrived in theatres last Friday, February 6. Despite generating modest pre-release interest and receiving fairly positive reviews, both films have struggled to make an impact at the box office.

Directed by Gunasekhar, “Euphoria” surprised many by earning better critical feedback than expected. Several critics described it as a gritty drama, though many felt the second half lacked consistency. For Gunasekhar, this reception came as a relief after the heavy trolling he faced for his previous film, “Shaakuntalam.”

However, the positive word-of-mouth did not translate into strong openings or sustained growth. The film’s box-office performance has remained flat, and even the presence of “Dhurandhar” fame Sara Arjun failed to draw significant footfalls.

On the other hand, “Sri Chidambaram Garu,” distributed by Vamsi Nandipati, also received decent reviews for its simple, warm narrative centered on two Christian youngsters from a coastal Andhra backdrop. While the film found appreciation and traction on social media for its theme of self-discovery, its box-office collections remained underwhelming.

Other releases of the weekend, including the dubbed film “With Love” and “Sumati Satakam,” also failed to register notable numbers. Overall, the weekend offered little relief to exhibitors and distributors, continuing the dry spell at the box office.
