Suriya’s film blockbuster in Tamil, modest in Telugu

Suriya’s latest release “Karuppu” has turned out to be a massive blockbuster in Tamil. The film, which entered its second weekend on a strong note, has already crossed the Rs 200 crore gross mark worldwide, becoming one of the biggest hits in Suriya’s career.
Trade analysts expect the film to comfortably touch the Rs 300 crore gross milestone by the end of its theatrical run. The film has witnessed excellent occupancy and strong repeat audience in Tamil Nadu and overseas markets.
However, the Telugu version, titled “Veerabhadrudu,” has not enjoyed the same level of success. The dubbed version posted a respectable Rs 10 crore nett during its opening weekend, raising hopes of a solid run. But collections dropped sharply afterward, and the film failed to sustain momentum at the Telugu box office.
As a result, while “Karuppu” is emerging as a sensational blockbuster in Tamil, “Veerabhadrudu” is ending up as only a modest grosser in Telugu.
Nevertheless, Suriya is expected to have brighter prospects in the Telugu market with his next film “Vishwanath and Sons.” Directed by Venky Atluri and produced by Naga Vamsi, the project is already generating positive buzz and is likely to attract stronger attention among Telugu audiences.
