Director Trivikram Srinivas recently announced a mythological film with NTR, tentatively titled “God of War”. The project is based on Lord Kartikeya, also known as Lord Murugan or Subramanya Swamy.

Soon after the announcement, the film landed in controversy over a line in the makers’ promotional material, which described the deity as “born in the North and revered in the South.” The wording has drawn criticism from some sections in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil politician Seeman has now strongly objected to the description and issued a warning to the film’s makers.

According to Seeman, portraying Lord Murugan as a northern deity is a distortion of history. He argued that Murugan occupies a central place in Tamil culture and tradition, and said any attempt to disconnect the deity from Tamil heritage would not be accepted.

He further warned that if the film contains scenes that hurt Tamil sentiments or misrepresent the cultural roots associated with Lord Murugan, protests would be intensified and efforts would be made to stop the film’s release. He urged the makers to address the issue at an early stage.

The makers have not responded publicly to Seeman’s remarks.

The film, which features NTR in the role of Lord Murugan, is expected to go on floors next year. It will be produced by S. Radha Krishna under Haarika & Hassine Creations in association with NTR Arts, with Kalyan Ram also backing the project.
