Lenin: Second weekend is crucial for $1 million dream

Akhil Akkineni’s Lenin has emerged as a profitable venture in North America by the end of its first week. The film, which premiered on July 9, has grossed over $700k, comfortably crossing its break-even point and entering the profit zone.
The next target, however, is a much bigger milestone.
To cement its success overseas, “Lenin” now needs to cross the $1 million mark. While the film has earned positive word of mouth and is considered a hit, its collections in North America have been relatively steady rather than exceptional.
Typically, Telugu films that generate strong “hit” talk cross the $1 million milestone within their first week. “Lenin” is yet to reach that level, making its second weekend performance especially important.
For Akhil Akkineni, the milestone carries added significance. His 2017 film “Hello” remains the only one in his career to have crossed the $1 million mark in North America. If “Lenin “maintains its momentum over the weekend, it could become his second film to achieve the feat.
Directed by Murali Kishore Abburu, “Lenin” stars Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead.
