Humungous numbers in AP and Telangana but…
When a Rajamouli film hits the theaters, the situation at the ticket windows would seem like a storm of revenue. Released amidst skyrocketed expectations, ‘RRR’ expectedly took in record collections in the first weekend.
The film set a new record in Telangana in the first week in terms of collection. Part contributor to the ‘big number’ is the abnormal hike in ticket prices. Nearly Rs 100 was hiked compared to a film released two months ago. Double the amount was increased compared to ‘Baahubali 2’ or ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramloo’. So, the collection seems HUGE, but the footfalls are not.
As a standalone, ‘RRR’ has posted big numbers in the first week and will add more gross to its kitty this weekend. It is expected to reach the break-even stage after the second weekend.
Blockbuster in the USA and other overseas territories
Without a doubt, ‘RRR’ proved that no star could match the popularity of Rajamouli in the USA territories. The film created records in the USA as it grossed about $11 million (Rs 83.50 Crore) in the first week. This is an unbeatable record. The film is an all-time BLOCKBUSTER in the USA. It will have a good run for another two weeks in the USA.
‘RRR’ also grossed staggering amounts in the UK, USA, and other territories. Undoubtedly, ‘RRR’ is a mega success overseas.
Flop in Kerala, Underperformance in Tamilnadu and Karnataka
Surprisingly, despite the brand name ‘Baahubali’, Rajamouli’s magic has not worked much in Kerala. The film is heading towards the flop zone in Kerala. The performance in Tamilnadu and Karnataka is just about average. ‘Baahubali 2’ created records in those states. But, ‘RRR’ has failed to make any impact.
Hindi: Inflated numbers
Lately, the trade pundits of Bollywood are posting inflated numbers for all movies. The ‘gimmickry’ has gone further in the case of ‘RRR’. So, we are not declaring anything about the result of the Hindi version in India.
Final Verdict: “RRR” has posted record numbers in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and overseas in the first week. In other regions, it has worked not up to the expectations.
