Sundeep Kishan says Mazaka is a laughathon

Sundeep Kishan

Sundeep Kishan’s 30th film, “Mazaka,” marks a career milestone for the actor. As the film approaches its release date of February 26, he discusses it and his career. Excerpts…

Is Mazaka a comedy drama?

I’ve done comedy films in the past. “Beeruva” and “Venkatadri Express” were in the same genre, although my characters in those flicks didn’t do much comedy. In contrast, “Mazaka” is a full-length comedic entertainment. My character’s name is Krishna. My father and I live as bachelors under the same roof. The plot contains numerous surprises. The proceedings are really entertaining.

It was a wonderful experience working with Rao Ramesh garu, who played my father. Ritu Varma brought freshness into this film. Our characters came out brilliantly. Trinadha Rao, the director, and Prasanna, the writer, have introduced new elements to the comedy genre.

Is there any specific reason for switching to comedy?

My last four films were either action-oriented or completely serious. I wanted to present myself in a lighter manner, and thankfully Trinadha Rao and Prasanna came up with this amusing father-son narrative idea. This film features an original concept. It will surprise the audience. It is a clean comedy entertainer. It will be an enjoyable ride.

Are you content with how your career has progressed?

30 films in 15 years… The pace has been truly remarkable. So far, my career has been both exciting and satisfying. Cinema is more important to me than family. I am pleased to have introduced many fresh directors and talents on this journey.

You are also appearing in superstar Vijay’s son Sanjay’s directorial debut. Tell us about it.

The film’s shooting has recently begun. It’s a new-age action movie. Sanjay is working hard on his debut film. The film will also be released in Telugu. He is a talented director to watch out for.

Are there any new projects?

Besides Sanjay’s directorial, I have also done a web series for Netflix. I have also completed the “Family Man 3” web series.
