Tamil superstar Vijay on Tuesday rode a bicycle to the polling booth to cast his vote. The video went viral on social media. While many praised his move, it soon kicked off a political controversy.
Political parties in Tamilnadu criticized him that his support for a political party (DMK) was evident by riding a cycle that is painted in red and black. Some said it was his way of slamming the BJP for the hike in petrol and diesel prices. It was his sly campaign against the BJP alliance.
So, Vijay’s spokesperson clarified that the actor chose to bicycle as his mode of travel as the polling booth is very near to his residence. Plus, the streets are narrow to go and there would be no space for parking his car. His team had tried to diffuse political heat.
The polling for Tamilnadu assembly elections 2021 was held on Tuesday.
