Actress Kasthuri Shankar was on Saturday arrested in Hyderabad in a case involving her alleged offensive remarks against Telugu-speaking people.
The 50-year-old actor’s remarks at a meeting of the Hindu Makkal Katchi on November 3 sparked controversy. She made nasty remarks against Telugu people living in Tamilnadu.
She sought anticipatory bail, and the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court dismissed her petition.
On November 6, Kasthuri apologized, announcing she had withdrawn all references to the Telugu community from her November 3 speech. She clarified that it was never her intention to hurt or offend the Telugu community.
Kasthuri acted in many Telugu films, including “Annamayya.” She also did Telugu TV serials.
