At one point, “Kalki 2898 AD” appeared to beat the “RRR” records in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Advance bookings demonstrated an optimistic trend. However, by the end of the day, the Prabhas starrer was yet to earn “RRR” status in Telugu states.
The first-day box office figures show that the film did well in Nizam (Telangana), but underperformed in Andhra Pradesh. The film collected a share of Rs 38 Cr in both states together.
Some argue that the Andhra Pradesh collections were little low due to producer Ashwin Dutt’s decision to deviate from the practice of taking ‘fixed hires’ from distributors. Producers usually include fixed hires (a minimum guarantee amount given to the distributor prior to release) to Andhra Pradesh’s first day receipts. However, producers such as Dil Raju have termed this tendency fraudulent. Now, Ashwini Dutt has started a trend of not adding such amounts. Thus, whatever ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ grossed is the real collection.
So, here are the final first-day revenues for the film in AP and Telangana.
