Lokesh Kanagaraj is set to start ‘Kaithi 2’ with Karthi
After months of uncertainty and multiple failed attempts to launch a big project, director Lokesh Kanagaraj is back to square one. He will now move ahead with “Kaithi 2,” starring Karthi.
According to the latest buzz, Kanagaraj has already begun working on the script for “Kaithi 2,” resolving earlier issues, and Karthi has reportedly agreed to allot dates for the film.
Although “Coolie,” his first collaboration with superstar Rajinikanth, grossed over Rs 600 crore worldwide and emerged as a box-office hit, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s reputation took a hit due to criticism of his weak writing and direction. Before Coolie’s release, Kanagaraj was flooded with big offers from stars like Ram Charan, Prabhas, and Aamir Khan. However, the film’s mixed reception dampened that momentum.
Even the much-hyped multi-starrer featuring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan didn’t materialize under his direction, with reports suggesting Nelson Dilipkumar is now in talks to helm that project. His other proposed film with Rajinikanth also failed to take off.
With no major projects currently locked, Lokesh Kanagaraj is now focusing on “Kaithi 2.” The 2019 original earned him immense acclaim and established his brand as a filmmaker, and expectations for its sequel are higher than ever.
