Manchu Manoj, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Chinmayi slam Sivaji

Sivaji controversy

Actor Sivaji Sontineni’s cheap and disgusting remarks on women’s clothing have already triggered massive backlash on social media, with netizens slamming him from all quarters.

Now, celebrities have also stepped in to condemn his comments. Actors Manchu Manoj and Anasuya Bharadwaj, along with singer Chinmayi, have openly criticised Sivaji for his remarks.

In his post, Manchu Manoj wrote that a civilised society protects women’s rights rather than policing their choices. He also apologised on behalf of Sivaji, stating that such individuals do not represent men or the film industry as a whole.

Anasuya Bharadwaj, without directly naming Sivaji, asserted that a woman has complete autonomy over her body and her choice of clothing. “It’s my body, not yours,” she posted on social media.

Singer Chinmayi, in a strongly worded statement, slammed Sivaji for offering unsolicited advice and called out his use of the term “Daridrapu M**da,” stating that such language reflects a sexist and misogynistic mindset.

Sivaji is yet to respond to this criticism.

What Sivaji said:

Speaking at the Dhandoraa event, Sivaji advised actresses to avoid wearing revealing clothes. He claimed that while people may smile or appreciate such appearances in public, they often resort to cheap and derogatory comments behind their backs. Referring to this, Sivaji said actresses are labelled with terms like “Daridrapu Mu*da.” He also used the word “Saamanlu” to describe actresses’ bosoms, a term widely considered crude and disrespectful in Telugu.

While the very act of policing women’s clothing is problematic, Sivaji’s use of such objectionable and degrading language has drawn even stronger criticism.
