Legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam turned 70 today, drawing warm wishes and tributes from celebrities, filmmakers, and fans across the country.

Widely regarded as one of India’s finest directors, Mani Ratnam has delivered several timeless classics, including Nayakan, Geethanjali, Thalapathi, Roja, Bombay, Dil Se.., and Guru. His films are celebrated for their powerful storytelling, memorable characters, and technical brilliance.

Born in Madurai in 1956, Mani Ratnam made his directorial debut with the Kannada film “Pallavi Anu Pallavi”. He rose to prominence with acclaimed Tamil films such as Mouna Ragam and “Nayakan.” He also made a lasting impact on Telugu cinema with “Geethanjali,” starring Nagarjuna.

One of the rare filmmakers to have worked successfully across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema, Mani Ratnam has built a remarkable legacy spanning more than four decades.

While his recent film “Thug Life” did not perform as expected at the box office, his epic two-part saga Ponniyin Selvan: I and Ponniyin Selvan: II emerged as among the highest-grossing films in the history of Tamil cinema.

Even at 70, the celebrated director shows no signs of slowing down. He is gearing up for his next project, which is expected to star Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles.
