It’s now official. Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Telangana minister for cinematography, today officially announced that the government has decided not to permit benefit shows for any film in the state henceforth.
He went to KIMS hospital, where Shri Tej, the boy who was severely injured in the stampede at Sandhya theater during the premiere show of “Pushpa 2,” was, and inquired about the condition of the boy. He handed over Rs 25 lakhs for the treatment of Shri Tej. He said the money is from the Prateek Foundation that he runs.
Shri Tej’s mother died in the stampede. Police filed a case against Sandhya theater management and actor Allu Arjun for the stampede, and the star was detained in jail for a day in the case.
Earlier in the day, CM Revanth Reddy in the state assembly lambasted the film industry’s personalities for visiting Allu Arjun’s house after he came out on bail and supported him as if something terrible happened to him. “Should we not have taken action on a star if a woman died in the stampede and her son is fighting for his life in the hospital?” CM Revenath Reddy said.
The state government’s handling of this case, involving visits to the hospital by ministers and officials to inquire about the injured boy’s health condition and subsequent discussions in the Telangana assembly, has raised political debate.
