Padma Shree for composer MM Keeravani

Music director MM Keeravani, whose composition “Naatu Naatu” was nominated for an Oscar, was awarded the Padma Shree, the country’s fourth highest civilian honour. He is one of 106 people named by the Indian government for the Padma Awards in 2023.

MM Keeravani is an accomplished music director. In his three-decade career, he has worked on over 200 films in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. Keeravani debuted with “Manasu Mamatha” in 1990. However, it was Ram Gopal Varma’s “Kshana Kshanam” and “Seetharamayya Gari Manavaralu” that catapulted him to fame. He went on to have a string of hits.

Gharana Mogudu, Allari Alludu, Allari Priyudu, Criminal, Subha Sankalpam, Pelli Sandadi, Annamayya, Zakhm, Paheli, Sri Ramadasu, Magadheera, Baahubali, and RRR are some of his popular films.

For “Annamayya,” he received a national award for best music direction. He also received eight Filmfare and eleven Nandi awards.

With “RRR,” he achieved international acclaim. He recently received a Golden Globe Award, a LAFCA Award, and a Critics’ Choice Movie Award. He is also an instrumentalist, singer, and lyricist best known for his work on Telugu film soundtracks.
