Ram Gopal Varma is bowled over by the craft and artistry in the final installment of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise. Starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, the last part, titled “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” hit theaters in India ahead of its global release.
In India, the film premiered two days ago. After watching it, Ram Gopal Varma—aka RGV—declared it the best of the franchise and said it blew his mind.
RGV went on to say that Hollywood filmmakers challenge the audience’s intelligence with films like these, whereas Indian filmmakers often assume the audience is dumb. “The difference between them and us is they assume the audience to be intelligent and push their intelligence further up, by making films like #MissionImpossibleTheFinalReckoning. On the contrary we assume the audience to be dumb and we push their dumbness further down in the hope of even reaching the dumbest of the audience by making films like – (dash),” he wrote.
According to him, that’s the fundamental difference between the Indian film industry and Hollywood.
While some praised RGV’s observation and agreed with his take, others reminded him of some of the dumbest movies he himself has directed.
