‘Romba Santhosham’: Ilaiyaraaja thanks fans on his 83rd birthday

Legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja turned 83 today, and fans gathered in large numbers at his Chennai studio to celebrate the occasion and extend their heartfelt wishes.
Born on June 3, 1943, the maestro personally greeted fans and expressed his gratitude for the immense affection showered on him over the years. “Romba Santhosham” (very happy), he said, thanking everyone who came to wish him on his special day.
Ilaiyaraaja also interacted with the media and appeared emotional while speaking about the love and admiration he continues to receive from fans, colleagues, and celebrities across the country.
Even at 83, the maestro remains as active as ever. He continues to compose music for films and collaborate with a new generation of filmmakers. Recently, he announced upcoming projects with acclaimed Tamil directors Karthik Subbaraj and Mari Selvaraj.
Over a remarkable career spanning five decades, Ilaiyaraaja has composed music for more than 1,500 films, making him one of the most prolific composers in world cinema history. His contribution to Telugu cinema is equally significant, with numerous evergreen classics to his credit.
He also won National Film Awards for his work on acclaimed Telugu films such as Sagara Sangamam and Rudraveena.
