Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry passes away


Legendary lyricist Seetharama Sastry is no more. He passed away on Tuesday. He was 66. He died of lung cancer. The government of India recently honored him with Padma Shri.

Known by his first film’s name ‘Sirivennela’, Seetharama Sastry was known for his classical style of writing, rich with poetry.

“Noted Tollywood lyricist Sri Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry garu passed away this afternoon at 4.07 PM. He died of Lung Cancer related Complications. Sri Sirivennela was admitted to KIMS Hospital, Secunderabad, on 24th November with Pneumonia. He was put on ECMO to support his lungs in ICU and was under close observation.

On behalf of KIMS Hospitals, we extend our condolences to Sri Sirivennela’s family members,” the hospital statement read.

His real name is Chembolu Seetharama Sastry. But his maiden film K Vishwanath’s ‘Sirivennela’ became his surname. He penned some of the best works for directors like K Vishwanath, Ram Gopal Varma, Krishna Vamsi, K Raghavendra Rao, Trivikram, and Krish.

He was a versatile peotr. Be it romantic songs or philosophical songs, he was there to provide the best poetry. A fun number or a revolutionary ballad, his pen flew with dense thoughts.

More than a dozen Nandi awards hugged him. He was also awarded Padma Shri honor.

Some of his noted works are Sirivennela, Ladies Tailor, Sankeerthana, Shrutilayalu, Swayamkrushi, Kallu, Swarna Kamalam, Gaayam, Kshana Kshanam, Subha Lagnam, Sreekaram, Sindhooram, Gulabi, Ninne Pelladutha, Chakram, Gamyam, Nuvvostanante Nenoddanatana, Mahatma, Kanche, Atadu, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, Bobbili Raja, Aditya 369, April 1 Vidudadala, Coolie No 1, Criminal, Money, Ankuram, Murari, Bommarillu, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, RRR, etc.
