YRF denies Netflix rumors about Alia Bhatt’s Alpha

Alia Bhatt is set to headline her first female-led spy thriller, “Alpha,” but recent rumors suggested the film might skip theatres and head directly to OTT. Production house Yash Raj Films (YRF) has now firmly denied these claims.
On Monday, reports circulated that Netflix had offered Rs 215 crore for the streaming rights of “Alpha,” allegedly due to low theatrical buzz. However, a YRF spokesperson dismissed the speculation as “baseless gossip” aimed at undermining a heroine-fronted film.
“Alpha” marks Alia Bhatt’s entry into YRF’s ambitious Spy Universe. The film also stars Sharvari Wagh and is directed by Shiv Rawail. Alia and Sharvari reportedly play elite agents in this high-octane action drama.
The studio reiterated that it has never skipped theatrical releases for its major projects and described “Alpha” as a tentpole film. The release date has been shifted to April 17, 2026, to accommodate extensive post-production and VFX work.
