Krishna’s throwback remark on Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli’s Varanasi

Even years after his passing, legendary actor Superstar Krishna’s words about his son Mahesh Babu continue to resonate with fans, especially as “Varanasi”, directed by SS Rajamouli, generates massive anticipation.

Long before the film went on floors, Krishna was aware that Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu were collaborating on a globe-trotting adventure inspired by the spirit of Indiana Jones. During an interview, he was asked whether Mahesh would suit such a rugged, adventurous look.

Krishna’s response reflected his complete confidence in his son’s versatility.

“Mahesh Babu can suit any getup and any role, whether it’s an Indiana Jones-style adventurer or even Lord Rama,” he implied.

His remarks have gained renewed relevance as “Varanasi” features Mahesh Babu in dual roles: an adventurer named Rudra and Lord Rama from the Ramayana era.

In the same interview, Krishna recalled an interesting prediction made by veteran filmmaker Doondi, who produced the spy thriller “Goodachari 116.” After watching Mahesh Babu as a child actor in “Poratam” (1983), Doondi reportedly predicted that the youngster would one day become one of Telugu cinema’s biggest stars.

Krishna also said it became evident during Mahesh Babu’s childhood itself that he possessed the qualities of a future superstar.

Although Krishna had expressed a desire to see Mahesh remake one of his own classic films, that wish remained unfulfilled. Mahesh Babu has consistently maintained that he does not believe in remaking films, choosing instead to focus on original stories.
