At a time when even big-budget and star-driven films are finding it difficult to secure lucrative OTT deals, Satyadev’s upcoming film “Rao Bahadur” has managed to strike a favorable agreement ahead of its theatrical release.
According to industry buzz, Netflix has acquired the film’s digital streaming rights. The platform is said to have paid an advance of around Rs 6 crore, with a performance-linked clause that could bring in additional revenue depending on the film’s box-office performance.
Several factors appear to have worked in the film’s favor. Director Venkatesh Maha enjoys a strong reputation thanks to acclaimed films such as “C/o Kancharapalem” and “Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya”, both of which found significant appreciation on streaming platforms. In addition, superstar Mahesh Babu’s banner is associated with the project as a presenter, adding further credibility and visibility.
These factors reportedly helped the makers close the OTT deal well before the film’s release. In the current market, where streaming platforms have become increasingly selective and cautious with acquisitions, the deal is considered a positive achievement.
“Rao Bahadur” is scheduled to hit theaters on July 3. The film stars Satyadev in the lead role, while Malayalam actress Deepa Thomas makes her Telugu debut. The project is among the notable releases lined up for the coming weeks.
