What’s about?
When Gayatri (Pallavi) is admitted to the hospital, the local nurse and staff, who are part of the organ trafficking mafia led by a doctor (Ajmal Amir), artificially make her fall into a coma by injecting such medicines. They then transfer her body to Hong Kong for an organ transplant. Gayatri’s soul finds itself in a teddy bear.
The teddy bear manages to find its way to the home of Aditya Raj, a pilot who Gayatri is in love with, but they had to part ways after an incident. Aditya Raj names this teddy bear Buddy, and now they all head to Hong Kong to find Gayatri’s body and rescue her before the organ mafia sells it off.
Analysis
Allu Sirish received favorable reviews for his previous film “Urvasivo Rakshasivo,” a remake of a Tamil film. Therefore, he attempted another remake. His latest film “Buddy” is based on Shakti Soundar Rajan’s 2021 Tamil movie, Teddy.
The concept of a giant bear is intriguing. What is the mechanism by which a teddy bear is able to talk? The bear has absorbed the soul of the female protagonist. These are the interesting parts of this movie. However, the film’s narrative lacks depth and intrigue. Director Sam Anton’s screenplay, writing, and direction have no compelling quality. The whole film appears non-serious due to its simplistic presentation.
Though the film is aimed at family audiences and kids, it needed better humor and an engaging narrative. The teddy bear uses Prabhas’s Kalki dialogue to appear relevant, but most of the antics this bear performs hardly generate a laugh. Plus, everything in this film runs in a predictable manner.
Allu Sirish is just okay in the hero’s role. Gayatri Bharadwaj does her part neatly. Mukesh Rishi’s cool appearance looks out of place. The film has decent music. Technically, it has adequate value.
Bottom line: “Buddy,” the remake of the Tamil movie Teddy, lacks compelling quality. Some portions may click with the kids. An inadequate effort overall.
