Current Theega – Movie Review

Film: Current Theega
Cast: Manchu Manoj, Rakul Preeti Singh, Jagapathi Babu, & Sunny Leone
Produced by: 24 Frames
Directed by: G Nageshwara Reddy
Release date: October 31, 2014

‘Current Theega’ is the remake of the Tamil film ‘Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam’, which released in 2013. With a village backdrop this film has not been dealt well. Director G Nageswara Reddy is known for his comedy, but here it is just a rustic drama.

Raju (Manchu Manoj) has a heavy crush on college English lecturer (Sunny Leone). Sivarama Raju (Jagapathi Babu) is a good samaritan in Parvathipuram. He vows that he will marry his daughters to the boys of his choice. Kavitha (Rakul Preet Singh) is Sivarama’s third daughter and studies in the same college as Raju. Both Raju and Kavitha fall in love. The rest of the film is about how they marry. What happens to Sivarama’s vow? To know this you must watch ‘Current Theega’.

Manchu Manoj has good comedy timing. This quality of his has been used highly in this film. Apart from good comedy he has also flexed his muscles in this film. Jagapathi Babu has done a good job. His is a village simpleton and there is comedy as well.

Rakul Preet Singh provides glamour. This is her best performance till date. Sunny Leone is a good choice for the role of sexy college teacher. This will surely draw crowds to the theatres. She has given a good performance. Sampooresh Babu, Vennela Kishore and Prithvi have given good support. Thagubothu Ramesh is first rate. Achu Rajamani has scored the songs for ‘Current Theega’ which are hardly likeable. Kishore Tirumala’s dialogues have a good impact. Art direction is neat and editing is up to the mark, though runtime of the film could have been easily reduced.

The biggest drawback in the film is the script. We have seen this before in hundreds of films. The climax is so very predictable. The comedy is the saving grace in the film. Even then, the narrative lacks the necessary pace. ‘Current Theega’ would have been a decent entertainer had it had a good screenplay.

Verdict: Run of the mill drama
