The Telugu-dubbed version of the Tamil horror drama “Demonte Colony 2” opened today. Directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu, the film picks up where the 2015 release of the previous part left off, following a similar path. It is difficult to comprehend without seeing the original.
Debbie (Priya Bhavani Shankar) is determined to communicate with her late husband’s spirit. She asks a Buddhist monk for help. Within a chamber-like structure, she establishes a connection with Raghu’s soul (Arulnithi), a character from the first part of the story. Raghu, Debbie, and the Buddisht monk saw their faces on a massive LED screen hanging in this place. Raghu and Debbie find themselves trapped in a mirror-covered room. The ghost has returned; will Debbie be able to flee this location and survive?
Those who have seen the first part will appreciate the film more fully. However, this one sticks more specifically to the horror genre and incorporates unique aspects like mirror-induced fear sequences and bat-infested rooms.
The film is technically sound. The background score, production design, camerawork, and sound design work together to create an ominous atmosphere. Many of the episodes offer enjoyable horror film experiences. The only sore point is substandard visual effects. The visual effects lack crispness, most likely due to financial concerns.
The actors have used standard expressions. The film concludes with more hints about the third instalment.
Bottom line: “Demonte Colony 2″ is a chamber drama horror film. It contains some excellent horror episodes. It has a simple premise, but it works to some measure thanks to the focused narrative.
