Dhoom Dhaam Review: Vennela Kishore’s comedy clicks

What’s it about?

Karthik (Chetan Krishna) instantly falls in love with Suhana (Hebah Patel), but she rejects his proposal. Karthik and Suhana grow close during his trip to Poland, but he breaks up with her and prepares to get engaged to another girl there.

But his engagement with another girl also gets canceled, and both Suhana and Karthik solve their differences and become lovers.

However, Suhana’s parents pose challenges to their wedding plans. Suhana’s father (Goparaju) has been nurturing a grudge against Karthik’s father (Saikumar) for a long time. How does their love story see a happy ending?

Analysis

“Dhoom Dhaam” has Chetan Krishna and Hebah Patel in the main roles. Chetan Krishna earlier acted in films like “Gulf.” The film’s director, Sai Kishore Macha, is from the school of Sreenu Vaitla and writer Gopi Mohan. Therefore, his narrative style bears similarities to Sreenu Vaitla’s, with a greater emphasis on entertainment.

The story and screenplay are regular. But director Sai Kishore’s narrative drive laced with comedy has made this film a decent watch.

While the first half of the film is passable, the post-interval scenes elicit laughter thanks to a lengthy episode in which Vennela Kishore dominates the show. A prolonged wedding sequence and Vennela Kishore’s comic episode click.

The romantic thread, however, feels tiresome. The lead pair lacks chemistry between them.

Chetan Krishna has shown improvements in his acting skills compared to his previous films, and his makeover is far better. Hebah Patel plays a typical glam role. Sai Kumar significantly contributes to the role of the protagonist’s father.

It is Vennela Kishore who dominates the show in the later half and adds some fun to the proceedings.

Gopi Sundar’s music is an asset to the film. Two songs are catchy. Other technicians have done an okay job, and the production values are impressive.

Bottomline: “Dhoom Dham” follows a regular style, but its entertaining second half, particularly Vennela Kishore’s episodes, compensates for its shortcomings. It makes a decent watch for this weekend if you keep your expectations under check and patiently wait for the second half’s comedy portions.
