Kavacham – Movie Review

What’s it about!

Vijay (Bellamkonda) is a young police officer. He is strict, honest cop. One day, his mother lands in a medical emergency and he needs to arrange huge money in 24 hours to save his mother. His insurance money doesn’t cover the expenses. By playing a kidnap drama with Samyukta (Mehreen), he gets the money. What he doesn’t expect that the villain gang would play the same trick to incriminate him in the kidnap case. How this young cop proves his honesty is the rest of the drama?

Analysis

An honest cop getting involved in a case in a trap set by a villain and he’s going all out to prove his innocence is time-tested formula. New director Srinivas Mamilla ‘Kavacham’ rests on this line. But the director comes to this point only in the second half, till then he dodges on uninteresting and routine sequences by introducing two female characters (Kajal and Mehreen) and playing with unimportant scenes. The entire first half is bad except for the interval bang.

Till interval bang comes, the story runs in clueless way. Neither the scenes between Bellamkonda and Mehreen, nor between Bellamkonda and Kajal are interesting enough.

Post-interval, it makes some sense for few minutes but then again it slips into the mould of regular cat and mouse game between hero and villain. With too many unnecessary twists, it makes us tiresome as the runtime proceeds without any relief.

Bellamkonda Srinivas has played the role of a police officer for the first time in his career. He is okay in this role. Kajal is wasted. Mehreen plays typical role. Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh is good as the main villain though he doesn’t get much footage. Sathyam Rajesh, Harshavardhan Rane and Posani make some impression.

The film’s music is weak. None of the songs are catchy. Production and technical values are good. New director Mammilla Srinivas’s screenplay and narrative skills are lacking effectiveness.

Bottom-line: ‘Kavacham’ is regular action drama that offers nothing new in terms of story or screenplay. Except the middle-portions, entire movie runs on predictable manner and turns a bore.
