‘Love Guru’ Review: Makes a time pass watch

What’s “Love Guru” about?

Encumbered by familial obligations Aravind (Vijay Antony) delays his wedding plans and persists in developing his professional life in Malaysia. It was only after in late thirties, he thinks of getting married and developed feelings for  his relative Leela (Mirnalini Ravi) upon arriving in India.

Leela’s father, who strongly opposes her ambition of becoming a movie heroine, promptly consents to the alliance of Aravind. She reluctantly weds Aravind.

After getting married, Aravind discovers his wife’s genuine aspirations, and she married him without any interest or love. To what extent will he go in order to win her love?

Analysis

“Love Guru,” the dubbed version of the Tamil film “Romeo,” has a fairly typical plot. The opening scenes of a male protagonist avoiding marriage plans for the sake of his family and responsibilities are reminiscent of many Telugu films. However, when the lead pair marry, the film becomes much more enjoyable.

The scenes involving Vijay Antony and Mrinalini Ravi following their marriage have provided a decent amount of entertainment. Furthermore, the sequences involving VTV Ganesh (who rose to prominence in Telugu due to his unique dialogue delivery in films such as “Beast” and “Jailer”) are quite entertaining. Yogi Babu’s comedy track has included some more hilarious scenarios.

But the film becomes somewhat predictable after a certain point. Furthermore, the main plot of a husband attempting to win his wife’s love after discovering her ‘modern’ attitude bears a striking resemblance to Shah Rukh Khan’s film “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.”

Although newcomer Vinayak Vaithiyanathan expertly directs the first half of the film, the latter sections suffer from a lack of elegance, as many situations become repetitive and fail to make a significant impact.

Nonetheless, the film succeeds because of its feel-good moments.

Among the actors, Vijay Antony shines in this film, displaying his comedic talent, which diverges from his typical style of acting. He is good at crucial sister sentiment sequences. Mirnalini Ravi’s portrayal is impressive.

The technical department is just okay. Music is a big letdown.

Bottom line: “Love Guru” showcases Vijay Antony in different avatar and he seizes this chance to shine. While the story is predictable and some portions are too regular, the film provides a fair amount of fun moments and makes a decent watch.
