Nannu Dochukunduvate – Movie Review

What’s it about!

When his cousin informs Karthik (Sudheer Babu) that she is in love and seeks his help in telling her father, he agrees. Karthik lies to his father and his uncle that he can’t marry his maradalu as he is already in love with another girl named Siri (he picks up this name based on his Iphone app). When his father comes to Hyderabad to see Siri, he hires an actress who features in short films to act as his lover Siri for two days. She is Meghana (Nabha Natesh) who is a student acting in short films for money. Will she just act and leave him or will both of them really fall in love?

Analysis

This is actor Sudheer Babu’s maiden production. He has chosen a script that suits well for his body language. ‘Nannu Dochukunduvate’ has simple story line – a girl falling in love with a guy who has asked her to act as his girlfriend for few days. It is quote an old plotline. To give it contemporary look, the debutant director has added the current trend of short films. The girl is an actress in short films. Since the plotline and narrative is predictable, the director has relied on the comic moments generating from this contemporary setup – short films. Those episodes have created hilarious moments. In fact, the film is watchable due to these comedy of errors related to short films.

The film begins interestingly and the entire first half runs in decent way with regular scenes. The newcomer Nabha Natesh holds the scenes in the first half with her innocent and lively act. But the film turns serious and monotonous in the second half with too much of predictability.

Films like these work when the music is extraordinary but Ajaneesh B Loknath’s songs are mediocre (except one song in the second half). It turns quite routine and one-dimensional in the second half.

Sudheer Babu has fitted well in his role as a software manager who has only one aim to make his father happy by earning huge money. In one scene, he is dragged to act as replacement for another actor in a short film that Meghana is acting and he does this scene in a funniest way. Kannada actress Nabha impresses with her bubbly acting. Senior actors Nasser and Tulasi add value to the film.

Technically, the film is decent. Cinematography and production values are perfect. Music is a major drawback. Editing is also not good. For a short film idea, this has 149 minutes of runtime. New director R S Naidu has shown his strength in comedy but his writing lacks freshness.

Bottom-line: ‘Nannu Dochukunduvate’ is romantic comedy with some fun moments but it has predictable narration and lengthy runtime. Watchable for its comic moments.
