Purushothamudu Review: Too regular and predictable

Purushothamudu

What’s it about?

Aditya Ram (Murali Sharma), an industrialist, decides to nominate his foreign-educated son, Rachit Ram (Raj Tarun), as the next CEO of their company. But the remaining stakeholders, particularly Vasundhara (Ramya Krishna), oppose this idea and remind him of the prerequisites for becoming CEO.

According to the company’s statutes, before becoming CEO, one must give up his rich lifestyle for 100 days and live as a commoner with no comforts. Rachit Ram accepts and travels to Rayapulanka village in Godavari district. In this village, he not only grows as a person, but he also meets his love (Hasini). What metamorphosis occurred, and how did Rachit Ram become Purushottam Ram?

Analysis

The protagonist’s family in this story all carry Ram as surnames. But carrying Lord Ram’s name make a person Ram? What makes Ram Purushottam? These are the questions the film’s plot tries to address in this story, which seems to be straight out of 2006 Korean movie – “A Millionaire’s First Love.”

The plot is straightforward and devoid in originality. Still, it has some decent moments in the first half. As the story moves on, the sequences turn increasingly predictable and formulaic.

Raj Tarun plays his role with so much conviction. In numerous instances, his performance captivates the audience. Newcomer Hasini Sudheer, who plays village girl Ammulu, provides some glam. Ramya Krishna, a seasoned actress, plays her role effectively. Murali Sharma and Prakash Raj add value to the proceedings Among other actors, comedian Praveen makes some scenes entertaining.

“Purushothamudu” has decent technical values, with Gopi Sundar delivering hummable tracks, PG Vinda giving colorful graphics, and producers spending enough money to ensure quality.

Bottom line: “Purushothamudu” has some moments here and there, but this one needed more skilled narration. Mostly a predictable fare.
