Vijay Deverakonda’s “Kingdom” has surprised the trade. The film was not considered red-hot until a week ago, but things changed at the last minute. Despite releasing on a weekday (Thursday) with no holiday advantage, it grossed a massive Rs 32–34 Cr worldwide on its first day. This is not only the career-best opening for Vijay Deverakonda but also ranks among the top three biggest openers for non-A-list (tier-2) stars.

“Kingdom” didn’t receive unanimously strong reviews, but the overall talk is that it is mounted on an ambitious scale and features strong performances from Vijay Deverakonda and Satyadev, along with superb visuals. However, the film suffered due to an inconsistent second half. Still, it maintained a strong run throughout the day, with shows starting as early as 7:30 AM in Hyderabad.

The collections remained consistently strong on day one across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and the USA. The film collected about Rs 4.20 Cr (share) in Telangana, and in the USA, it already crossed the $1 million mark.

“Kingdom” not only brought relief to Vijay Deverakonda but also revived weekday box office buzz after a long time.

While Nani’s HIT 3, which was released on a holiday (May 1), remains the top day-one grosser among tier-2 heroes, Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom came close.

The film didn’t collect much from the Hindi market, but Kerala posted an impressive Rs 50 lakhs, the highest for a Telugu film in the state this year.
