It has been nearly a fortnight since Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, yet “Jana Nayagan” has still not received clearance from the censor board. With the delay continuing, the film’s release during the summer holiday season now appears doubtful.

After Vijay secured a massive mandate in the Tamil Nadu elections, many expected the film to face no further hurdles from the Central Board of Film Certification. Earlier, when the makers planned a January release, objections were reportedly raised over the film’s political content. Since the elections are now over, there was an assumption that the political theme would no longer be seen as sensitive.

However, the producer is still said to be awaiting confirmation from the CBFC revising committee. Sources reveal that if the clearance does not come within the next week, releasing the film before the end of the summer season on June 12 may become impossible. In that case, the makers are likely to push the release to late June or July.

“Jana Nayagan” is Vijay’s final film as an actor before his full-time political career. He originally intended to bid farewell to cinema before the elections, but the project got delayed due to censor and legal complications. Now that he has assumed office as Chief Minister, Vijay is not expected to act in any more films.
