Kuberaa and Kannappa

Manchu Vishnu’s “Kannappa” posted the biggest opening weekend of his career, collecting Rs 23 crore nett in India. The film grossed over Rs 10 crore on day one, setting a personal record for the actor. It continued with a decent Rs 7 crore nett on Saturday. However, despite the initial buzz, the film couldn’t gain momentum on the crucial Sunday. There was neither a significant jump nor a major drop in collections.

The worldwide gross for “Kannappa” in the first weekend stands at around Rs30 crore. While this is a strong performance for a Manchu Vishnu film, the momentum from the opening day suggested a higher potential. Given the film’s massive budget, “Kannappa” still faces considerable challenges in reaching the break-even mark.

“Kuberaa” performs well on second Sunday

Sekhar Kammula’s “Kuberaa” bounced back strongly on its second Sunday. Although it faced competition from “Kannappa” and had a slow second Friday, the film picked up over the weekend. The Telugu version performed particularly well in the Nizam and Andhra regions, even as the Tamil version failed to make an impact.

By the end of the second weekend, Kuberaa had grossed Rs 80 crore in India. In the USA, the film continued its strong run, collecting Rs 25 crore at the box office. The Telugu version remains the major contributor to its overall success.
