Box Office: ‘Pushpa 2’ ends its domestic theatrical run

Pushpa 2

The producers of “Pushpa 2” have hoped that the film will have a long run until Sankranthi 2025. But the domestic market had given the film a different result than the overseas and North Indian markets had.

“Pushpa 2” set an all-time new record in Hindi by collecting more than Rs 750 Cr in India alone. The North American market had seen the film’s total run touching $15 million. Both areas have seen distributors earning huge profits.

In a quiet contrast, “Pushpa 2” ended its run in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Yesterday (December 29), the film saw empty theaters all over the Telugu states. Therefore, the distributors will face significant losses if they continue to hold screenings until the arrival of new Sankranthi movies.

Profit in Ceded, Loss in Andhra

In Andhra, nearly all distributors will ultimately experience a loss. The ceded region (Rayalaseema) is the only area where distributors have seen huge profits. In Nizam, the film will only reach the no-profit, no-loss situation if the distribution firm gets the return of GST from producers. The distribution company will not suffer much since the production company is also a partner in Nizam.

Overall, “Pushpa 2” not only ended its domestic run in 25 days but also didn’t become a blockbuster.

“Pushpa 2,” the second in the franchise of “Pushpa,” already became the third highest-grossing Indian movie in terms of global collections. Sukumar directed the film, which starred Allu Arjun in the title role and Rashmika Mandanna as the main heroine. The makers have also announced the release of the third part of the film.
