“War 2,” starring NTR and Hrithik Roshan, opened to harsh criticism from both critics and audiences, with its Day 1 collections falling short when compared to Rajinikanth’s juggernaut “Coolie.” However, contrary to expectations, the film did not collapse. Instead, it witnessed a strong surge on Day 2, aided by the holiday factor.
On its second day, “War 2” even recorded higher ticket sales than Coolie in India, helping it post impressive overall numbers. In two days, the film grossed ₹108 crore in India, while its USA collections added another ₹16 crore gross.
Though the cumulative figure still trails behind “Coolie,” the trend suggests “War 2” has the potential to hold steady and remain competitive. The makers are eyeing an additional ₹60–80 crore over Saturday and Sunday, targeting a ₹150–160 crore opening weekend.
The only concern is its performance in the Telugu states. Despite NTR’s presence, the film failed to attract audiences there, unlike Coolie, which drew strong numbers. This has come as a disappointment for both NTR and the production house YRF.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, “War 2” marks NTR’s Bollywood debut as well as his first foray into the spy-universe genre.
