Mrunal Thakur is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film “Dacoit”, which hits theaters on April 10. The film marks the directorial debut of cinematographer Shaneil Deo and is produced by Supriya Yarlagadda. Starring opposite Adivi Sesh, Mrunal plays a key role in this action-romantic drama. In a recent interaction, the actress spoke about the film, her character, and her approach to choosing roles.
Tell us about the story of “Dacoit”, your character, and what excited you the most.
“Dacoit” is a unique love story. After films like “Sita Ramam”, “Hi Nanna”, and “The Family Star”, Telugu audiences have embraced me like one of their own. In this film, I play Saraswathi, a character that will definitely connect with everyone.
It was a very challenging role, but at the same time, it gave me immense satisfaction as an actor. This is a completely new genre for me and one of the most distinct roles in my career so far. I also got to perform some stunts. I really enjoyed doing the chase sequences and driving scenes.
What was it like working with Adivi Sesh, the director, and the team?
Adivi Sesh has delivered a fantastic performance. He has taken on a completely new kind of role, and I believe this will be one of his best films.
Working on a film that was shot simultaneously in two languages was quite challenging. Anurag Kashyap is a brilliant filmmaker and a very versatile actor. His performance in this film is exceptional. Since both of us come from a Hindi-speaking background, learning Telugu dialogues together was a memorable experience.
Producer Supriya Yarlagadda is very supportive. I remember once I had to travel from Mumbai to Hyderabad for a shoot, but I had a fever. When she came to know about it, she paused the shoot for two days. It’s rare to see such care from a producer. Director Shaniel Deo has a strong vision. The film will be visually stunning.
Do you enjoy driving?
I love driving. In fact, I was the first girl in my family to drive a car. I enjoy action films, and “Dacoit” gave me the chance to perform action sequences, which I truly liked.
What kind of roles do you prefer?
I always want to experiment. I like to surprise myself as an actor. I am drawn to stories that explore new emotions and give me the opportunity to play characters I haven’t attempted before.
