Pawan Kalyan is my mentor and idol: Sai Dharam Tej

Sai Dharam Tej

“Bro” marks Pawan Kalyan’s first collaboration with his nephew Sai Dharam Tej. The film, directed by Samuthirakani, is set to hit theaters on July 28. Sai Dharam Tej shared his thoughts on the film and expressed his joy at working with his idol.

What drew you to the film – the story or the opportunity to work with Pawan Kalyan?

Pawan Kalyan is the obvious reason. I understand that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Pawan Kalyan is my mentor, inspiration, and the person who encouraged me to pursue a career in the film industry. “Bro” is a Telugu remake of the Tamil film “Vinodhaya Sitham,” which I did not watch. I gave my approval for the film solely for chance to work Pawan Kalyan. But it was only later that I realized what a beautiful script Samuthirakani had written.

Still, you must have related to the film’s plot because, both in the story and in real life, you were injured in an accident…

I did not sign on for this film because the plot is related to me. “Bro” was offered to me long before I was involved in an accident. The fact that “accident” is a major point in “Bro” and I met a road accident is pure coincidence.

How did things play out on the sets? What was it like working with your uncle Pawan Kalyan?

I was nervous and tense on the first day. When Kalyan garu noticed my nervousness, he pulled me aside and asked what was wrong with me. He pushed me hard in order to bring out the best in me. He made me forget about our real-life relationship and asked me to treat him as if he were a another co-star. Pawan Kalyan is more than just my uncle; he is also a mentor and an inspiration to me.

Director Samuthirakani also made things simple and pleasant. I also want to thank Trivikram garu for writing the dialogues and screenplay.

Bro

Did you take anything away from this film?

I worked with Pawan Kalyan for more than 21 days. He would be ready in the sets by 7.30 a.m. I learned a lot from him while filming by observing him and talking to him. It was a learning curve for me.

Is it true that you’re going to take a long break from acting?

Yes, I intended to take a break following the release of “Virupaksha.” I rescheduled my plans because “Bro” had secured the release date. Although I have recovered from the accident, I still have some minor issues to attend to. Before beginning new projects, I need to regain my full energy and health.

I’ve agreed to work on a film with director Sampath Nandi. After I get back in shape and gain fitness, I’ll start working on it.

Do you have any plans to work with another uncle Chiranjeevi now that you’ve worked with Pawan Kalyan?

Chiranjeevi gaaru is the rock on which our entire family stands. My ambition is to work alongside all three uncles, Nagendra Babu, Megastar Chiranjeevi, and Pawan Kalyan. I’m currently waiting for the opportunity to work with Chiranjeevi mamayya.
