Adivi Sesh is gearing up for the release of “Dacoit,” hitting theaters on April 10. In a candid interaction, he spoke about the film’s emotional core, inspirations, and his personal journey.
Your earlier films had romance too. What makes this one different?
In my previous films, love stories were just a part of a larger narrative. But in “Dacoit,” the love story itself is the main platform. It drives the entire film. If you watch it as an action film with romance, you may miss the depth. But if you see it as a love story unfolding through action and conflict, it will feel very satisfying. The emotions are very organic.
What inspired the story?
It began with a simple image in my mind a tiny flower growing out of a crack in a busy concrete road. That visual stayed with me. From there, we built a story about love surviving amid anger and chaos.
You are seen dancing in this film…
When I was young, someone told me I was too tall to dance. That stuck with me for years, and I avoided it. For “Dacoit,” I decided to break that limitation. The character of Hari is very open and expressive, and that gave me the confidence. I even practiced the Madanapalle dialect so much that I started speaking it at home.
Why are your films taking a long time to complete?
I’ve actually been working continuously for the past two years. Since I’m deeply involved in the writing process, it may appear like there’s a delay. After the release of “Goodachari 2,” I plan to take a short break and possibly work under another director’s vision, without being involved in writing.
Did you get Bollywood offers after “Major” movie?
Yes, I received several offers including war films and biopics from big banners. But I didn’t connect with those stories, so I chose not to do them.
What kind of stories attract you the most?
I am drawn to broken love stories. Emotions of love and heartbreak stay with people. Even in my writing, there is always some personal experience. My first breakup affected me deeply. I was 19 and completely lost. It took me nearly 10 years to recover. There was a phase of two years where I couldn’t understand anything.

What is your fitness and lifestyle secret?
I don’t smoke or drink. I also follow a vegetarian diet. Having grown up in the US, I am not used to very spicy food.
Any update on G2 (Goodachari 2)?
“G2” will release later this year.
