The action thriller “Agent” starring Akhil Akkineni and Mani Ratnam’s epic drama “PS-2” will clash at the box office this weekend. Mani Ratnam’s “Ponniyan Selvan” aka “PS-1” was a worldwide box office success.
When the makers of “Agent” announced an April 28 release date, many thought it was a bad idea because they were aiming for a pan-Indian audience. Other than Telugu, it was widely assumed that “PS 2” would dominate all other markets. But now things have changed.
There is no buzz surrounding “PS 2” in Telugu states. Furthermore, even in North India and Karnataka, excitement for “PS 2” is low. So, if the content is good, “Agent” has a good chance of succeeding.
“Agent” has a clear path in the Telugu states. It will have to compete with the successful “Virupaksha”, though.
