
In the film “Kalki 2898 AD,” Prabhas appears as Karna in a key episode. In the movie, Prabhas portrays the character of Karna from the Mahabharata in addition to his primary role as Bhairava. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film went on to become a massive blockbuster, collecting more than Rs 1000 crore at the box office. The sequel, Kalki 2, is currently under production.
However, lyricist Anantha Sriram had earlier criticized the way the character of Karna was portrayed in the film.
Now, he has once again spoken about the issue and clarified that he stands by his earlier comments. He stated that depicting the character of Karna in such a manner is wrong and that he would not remain silent if such portrayals continue.
Speaking in an interview, Anantha Sriram said that the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata are not merely stories but part of India’s history. According to him, no one has the right to alter them arbitrarily.
He further added that glorifying a negative character and elevating it purely for commercial appeal is something that cannot be accepted.
