‘Captain Prabhakar’ Vijayakanth is no more

Vijayakanth, a popular Tamil actor known for films such as ‘Captain Prabhakar,’ has died. On Thursday (December 28, 2023), he died of COVID-19 in Chennai.

He recently tested positive for Covid-19 and was placed on ventilator support due to breathing difficulties. On Thursday, he breathed his last. He was 71.

Although he only appeared in Tamil films, the majority of them were dubbed or remade in Telugu. When his 100th film, Captain Prabhakaran (1991), became a huge hit in Andhra Pradesh, he became well-known in Telugu. Many of his Tamil hits, such as “Sindhoora Puvvu,” were also dubbed. Other hits are “Kshatriyudu”, “City Police” and “Police Adhikari”.

He was also known for playing a patriotic police officer.

“Vaanathaippola” and “Ramana,” two of his other blockbusters, were remade in Telugu as “Maa Annayya” and “Tagore,” respectively.
