Director Maruthi has issued an apology for his recent “collar raise” comment made during the launch of the first song, Rebel Saab, from “The Raja Saab.” In his speech, Maruthi said he would not make statements like fans would “raise their collars” after watching the film, adding that such words were too small for Prabhas’s “cutout” and larger-than-life presence.

Many interpreted this as a direct dig at NTR, who famously raised his collar before the release of War 2, declaring it would be a massive hit. After the film turned out to be a dud, the gesture became a frequent target for trolling.
Maruthi’s reference triggered criticism from NTR’s fans, who felt he unnecessarily dragged NTR into the conversation.

Acknowledging the backlash, Maruthi took to social media to clarify his intent and apologized for using words that hurt fans’ sentiments.

He wrote, “First I sincerely apologise to every fan. It was never my intention to hurt or disrespect anyone. Sometimes in the flow of words things come out differently from what we truly mean and I regret that it was received in the wrong way or as a comparison.”

He also added that he has huge respect towards NTR. “I have immense respect for NTR garu and for all his fans. I truly value the love you carry for cinema and for your hero. I wanted to clarify this with complete honesty and from the heart…and I hope you understand the situation and the intention behind it.”

Maruthi has been struggling to deliver hit. “The Raja Saab” is crucial film for his career.
