Indian Cinema’s icon Dilip Kumar passes away

Dilip Kumar, one of the greatest actors of Indian cinema, is no more. He passed away on Wednesday. He was 98. “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return,” his family announced.

His real name was Mohammed Yusuf Khan but he continued his career with the screen name Dilip Kumar. Born in 1922, Mohammed Yusuf Khan debuted as an actor in Jwara Bhata in 1944. He went on to become a superstar of Indian cinema in a quick time.

Known as tragedy king, Dilip Kumar had acted in classics such as ‘Devdas’, ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, ‘Madhumati’, ‘Naya Daur’, ‘Ram Aur Shyam’, ‘Kranti’, and ‘Shakti’.

He was known as an actor’s actor. A superstar in the golden age of Hindi cinema.

Tributes and condolences for the iconic actor are pouring in from all quarters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed that the passing away of Dilip Kumar as a loss to the cultural world.

Megastar Chiranjeevi and NTR were the first among the Telugu stars to pay their respects to the legendary actor on social media.
