Jana Nayagan trailer: Yes, it’s a Bhagavanth Kesari remake

The trailer of “Jana Nayagan,” the final film of Thalapathy Vijay, has been unveiled and it clearly confirms long-standing speculation. The visuals, characters, and narrative strongly mirror the 2023 Telugu hit “Bhagavanth Kesari,” making it evident that the film is an official remake of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s blockbuster.
In “Bhagavanth Kesari,” Balakrishna portrayed an ex-cop who is determined to train and guide Vijji, played by Sreeleela, to join the Indian Army. In Jana Nayagan, Vijay steps into a similar cop role, with Mamitha Baiju reprising the Sreeleela character. Pooja Hegde plays the female lead, though with a change, she appears as a journalist, unlike Kajal Aggarwal’s role in the original.
The Telugu original was written and directed by Anil Ravipudi, while the Tamil remake is helmed by H. Vinoth. Known for his remake of the Hindi film “Pink” in Tamil with Ajith Kumar, Vinoth once again takes on familiar material with his own treatment.
The antagonist’s role is now played by Bobby Deol, replacing Arjun Rampal from the Telugu version. The film is set for a January 9 theatrical release in both Tamil and Telugu. While the remake may not hold much novelty for Telugu audiences, it is expected to create massive buzz in Tamil Nadu, as it marks Vijay’s final film before fully focusing on his party TVK and active politics ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Speculation about Jana Nayagan being a remake had been circulating for months, and the trailer has now put all doubts to rest.
