Janhvi Kapoor faces trolling over her praise for Buchi Babu

Ahead of the release of “Peddi,” Janhvi Kapoor was all praise for director Buchi Babu. She had stated that she simply followed his instructions and trusted his vision completely while performing her role.

However, after the film’s release, one aspect that has drawn near-unanimous criticism is Janhvi Kapoor’s character. While “Peddi” has received a mix of positive and mixed reviews overall, many reviewers felt that her role added little to the narrative and was largely limited to glamorous moments.

Interestingly, some audiences feel she had a more substantial part in “Devara,” even though that role too was not central to the story. As a result, social media users are now revisiting her pre-release comments and questioning why she spoke so highly of Buchi Babu’s handling of her character.

Many expected Janhvi’s role to be more significant after the promotional campaign hinted at a strong character arc. Instead, viewers felt that the characterization followed a familiar commercial-film template often seen in mainstream Telugu cinema.

The criticism is not directed at Janhvi’s screen presence. In fact, many fans acknowledge that she carries glamour with ease. The disappointment stems from the perception that the role is too ‘sexualized’.

Whether Janhvi was genuinely impressed by the director’s narration or was influenced by the team’s confidence in the character, the gap between expectations and the final result has become a talking point online. For some viewers, “Peddi” reinforces the belief that even directors of the current generation continue to struggle when it comes to writing decent roles for heroines.
