June 2026: Ram Charan holds key to box office revival

The first five months of 2026 have been largely disappointing for the Telugu film industry. Apart from the blockbuster success of “Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu,” no major big-ticket film has delivered the expected box office returns. Even high-profile releases like “The Raja Saab” and “Ustaad Bhagat Singh” failed to meet trade expectations.

With June beginning, the industry is pinning its hopes on a fresh slate of releases that could bring audiences back to theatres.

Peddi: The Biggest Bet

All eyes are on Ram Charan’s “Peddi,” which is set to kick off June on a grand note. The film has generated tremendous buzz and carries massive expectations among trade circles. Scheduled for premiere shows on June 3 and a wide release on June 4, the film has recorded strong pre-release business, with distributors and exhibitors placing huge bets on its success.

Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, “Peddi” is a sports drama infused with a social message. Ram Charan plays a crossover athlete who excels in multiple sports, while Janhvi Kapoor stars as the female lead. The songs composed by AR Rahman have already become chartbusters. The film is produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under the Vriddhi Cinemas banner.

Maa Inti Bangaram: Samantha’s Comeback Vehicle

Samantha’s “Maa Inti Bangaram” is expected to be the biggest release of mid-June. Arriving after schools reopen following the summer vacation, the film is primarily targeted at family audiences.

Samantha plays a newly married housewife with a violent past. Set in the Tirupati region, the story blends family drama with action and follows the template of several Hollywood and Korean female-led action thrillers, where an ordinary homemaker goes to extraordinary lengths to protect her family.

Directed by Nandini Reddy and produced by Samantha herself, the film is scheduled for release on June 19. Its trailer, released recently, has generated positive interest.

Lenin: A Crucial Film for Akhil Akkineni

The final week of June will witness the release of “Lenin,” starring Akhil Akkineni. Directed by Kishore Abburu and featuring Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead, the film currently lacks strong buzz, largely due to Akhil’s string of unsuccessful films in recent years.

As a result, “Lenin” has become a crucial project for the actor. Akhil will be seen in a rural role for the first time, and both Nagarjuna and producer Naga Vamsi have reportedly taken special care to ensure the film connects with audiences.

The film is slated for release on June 26.

Other Notable Releases

While the performance of June largely depends on “Peddi,” “Maa Inti Bangaram” and “Lenin,” a surprise success from a smaller film would be an added bonus for the industry.

“Sing Geetham,” directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao and produced by Nag Ashwin, is also releasing this month. Scheduled for June 11, the film is being promoted as a niche entertainer and could emerge as a surprise hit.

Vadde Naveen’s “Transfer Trimurthulu” is set for release on June 19. The film marks the actor’s return to the big screen after nearly two decades. Although it currently lacks significant buzz, nostalgia could work in its favour.

Also arriving on June 19 is “Deewana,” starring Harshith Reddy, who recently gained attention with “Shubham.” The young actor will be hoping to make an impression with this romantic entertainer.
