Kalki 2898 AD wins National Award for Best Popular film

The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were announced on Saturday, with Telugu cinema securing several major honours. Among the biggest winners was “Kalki 2898 AD,” which bagged two prestigious awards.

Directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by C. Ashwini Dutt, Kalki 2898 AD won the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment award. The film also received the Best Production Design award, with Nitin Zihani Choudhary being recognized for his outstanding work.

Starring Prabhas in the lead role, the sci-fi epic blended Indian mythology with a dystopian futuristic world. The ensemble cast also included Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, and Vijay Deverakonda in a special appearance.

Released in 2024, Kalki 2898 AD emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema, grossing over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide. It also recorded an impressive $18.5 million gross in North America, making it one of the highest-grossing Indian films in the region.

Following its phenomenal box-office success, Kalki 2898 AD has now added two National Film Awards to its list of achievements.
