Kalyani Priyadarshan, daughter of acclaimed director Priyadarshan and actress Lissy, began her acting career in Telugu cinema. She made her debut alongside Akhil Akkineni in director Vikram Kumar’s “Hello”. However, despite the buzz, she didn’t make a significant impact, with only one other Telugu film, Chitralahari, to her credit.
Soon, Kalyani shifted her focus to the Malayalam film industry, her native domain. After acting in eight Malayalam films, she finally struck gold with her latest release, “Lokah: Chapter 1 — Chandra,” produced by Dulquer Salmaan.
The film became a massive hit in Kerala and beyond. Released in Telugu as “Kotta Lokah,” it saw moderate success in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, but the original Malayalam version grossed over Rs 200 crore worldwide, ranking among the all-time highest-grossing Malayalam films.
This blockbuster success has catapulted the 32-year-old Kalyani into stardom, earning her the label of the new female superstar, especially since the film had a female superhero at its center.
With this milestone, it remains to be seen whether Tollywood and Bollywood will come calling with more major offers.
