Despite mixed reviews and a dip in collections on the second day, “Kantara Chapter 1” posted one of the biggest openings ever for a dubbed film in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The film earned more than Rs 50 crore gross in the Telugu states. This is a massive figure by any standard, even though it largely rode on the hype generated by the first part’s success.
“Kantara Chapter 1” clicked with audiences as many perceived it to be a “devotional film.” Collections picked up strongly on Saturday and Sunday, with Sunday’s numbers pushing the film to a massive four-day weekend gross.
In Karnataka, the Kannada version set new weekend box-office records, almost beating “KGF 2”. The Hindi version also posted a strong Rs 70 crore nett. The overall India gross stands at around Rs 250 crore, while the worldwide gross crossed Rs 310 crore in just four days.
The Rishab Shetty starrer is poised to post big numbers in the coming days, especially in the Kannada and Hindi markets. Rukmini Vasanth played the female lead, while Jayaram appeared in a key role.
